“The UK will host the first major global summit on AI safety this autumn — bringing together key countries, leading tech companies and researchers to agree safety measures to evaluate and monitor the most significant risks from AI.”

The AI Safety Summit was held at Bletchley Park on 1–2 November 2023 with roughly 150 representatives from governments, frontier AI labs, academia and civil society; 28 countries plus the EU signed the Bletchley Declaration.

“We will establish the world's first AI Safety Institute right here in the UK. It will advance the world's knowledge of AI safety, and it will carefully examine, evaluate and test new types of AI so that we understand what each new model is capable of.”

The UK AI Safety Institute was launched on 2 November 2023 at the Bletchley Park summit, evolving out of the Frontier AI Taskforce, and began conducting model evaluations (it was renamed the AI Security Institute in February 2025).
