“The market for data center AI accelerators will grow to approximately $400 billion in 2027 — nearly triple AMD's own $150 billion estimate from a year earlier.”
Resolves against 2027 data center AI accelerator market size. Su has since revised the number upward repeatedly (to $500 billion for 2028 in October 2024).
“The data center AI accelerator market will grow approximately 50% annually over the next few years, from something like $30 billion in 2023 to more than $150 billion in 2027.”
AMD itself superseded this estimate within months, raising the 2027 data center AI accelerator TAM to ~$400 billion in December 2023 and later to $500 billion by 2028 and $1 trillion by 2030; the 2027 outcome cannot be judged until the year closes.
“AMD's data center AI business will grow about 80% per year and reach tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue in 2027.”
AMD's data center segment revenue reached $6.7 billion in Q2 2026 alone, and the company has guided to data center revenue more than doubling in 2027, but the full-year 2027 result is not yet known.
“'In the Data Center alone, we expect the AI accelerator TAM will grow at more than 60% annually to $500 billion in 2028. To put that in context, this is roughly equivalent to annual sales for the entire semiconductor industry in 2023.'”
Su gave a near-identical $500 billion/2028 TAM figure at AMD's Advancing AI keynote on October 10, 2024; resolves against 2028 data center AI accelerator market size.
“AMD's overall revenue growth will expand to about 35% per year over the next three to five years, driven by 'insatiable' demand for artificial intelligence chips.”
AMD's own analyst-day materials set the same target (>35% company revenue CAGR, >60% data center CAGR, >80% data center AI CAGR); resolution keys on realized revenue CAGR from the 2025 base through the 2028-2030 window.
“The total market for AI data center parts and systems will reach $1 trillion per year in 2030, representing roughly 40% annual growth, and AMD is positioned to lead that transformation.”
This raised AMD's prior estimate of a ~$500 billion data center AI accelerator market by 2028; the 2030 outcome is years away.
“Based on the demand signals we are seeing today and the structural increase in CPU compute requirements driven by agentic AI, we now expect the server CPU TAM to grow at greater than 35% annually, reaching over $120 billion by 2030 [versus the approximately 18% annual growth outlined at our Financial Analyst Day in November].”
AMD doubled its own November 2025 Analyst Day server CPU TAM outlook (~$60 billion, ~18% growth) on this call, and at Advancing AI in July 2026 signalled an even larger figure; the 2030 outcome remains open.
“We now expect Data Center GPU revenue to be approximately $400 million in the fourth quarter [of 2023] and exceed $2 billion in 2024 as revenue ramps throughout the year. This growth would make MI300 the fastest product to ramp to $1 billion in sales in AMD history.”
AMD beat the guidance by a wide margin: Su reported 'more than $5 billion of AMD Instinct accelerator revenue' for 2024, and MI300 became AMD's fastest product ramp ever, passing $1 billion in sales in under two quarters.
“MI300 demand continues to strengthen, and based on our expanding customer engagements, we now expect data center GPU revenue to exceed $4 billion in 2024, up from the $3.5 billion we guided in January.”
AMD ended 2024 with more than $5 billion of data center GPU (Instinct) revenue, comfortably above the raised $4 billion target.
“As a result, we now expect data center GPU revenue to exceed $4.5 billion in 2024, up from the $4 billion we guided in April.”
AMD reported more than $5 billion of Instinct/data center GPU revenue for 2024, exceeding the $4.5 billion target.
“We now expect Data Center GPU revenue to exceed $5 billion in 2024, up from the $4.5 billion we guided in July and our expectation of $2 billion when we started the year.”
Narrowly met: in AMD's Q4/full-year 2024 results Su said the company 'delivered more than $5 billion of AMD Instinct accelerator revenue' in 2024.
“Production shipments [of MI325X] are planned to start this quarter [Q4 2024], with widespread system availability from Dell, HP, Lenovo, Super Micro and others starting in the first quarter of 2025.”
On the Q4 2024 call (Feb 5, 2025) Su confirmed: 'we began volume production of MI325X in the fourth quarter,' with the ramp progressing and OEM systems following in early 2025.
“'Based on the strong customer pull and expanded engagements, we now expect Data Center GPU revenue to grow sequentially in the first quarter and exceed $3.5 billion in 2024' — up from the earlier $2 billion forecast, after MI300 revenue exceeded $400 million in the quarter and became the fastest revenue ramp of any product in AMD history.”
AMD's February 4, 2025 results announcement stated it delivered 'more than $5 billion of AMD Instinct accelerator revenue' in 2024, comfortably clearing the $3.5 billion target Su set in January 2024.
