In August 2024 the incoming Labour government shelved the £500 million of additional AI Research Resource compute funding (along with £800 million for the Edinburgh exascale machine) as 'unfunded', so the promised money was never invested within the two-year window; only the pre-existing £300 million AIRR allocation continued.
