Robotaxi did launch in Austin in June 2025, but by the end of the year the service ran only in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area — the latter with a chaperone in the car — instead of the many cities Musk promised. Tesla reached roughly seven U.S. metro areas only in mid-2026.
